Professional Learning
Drawing on research- and evidence-based practices, and a proven track record of success, our approach to professional learning supports instructional leadership practices in four domains:
Prioritizing Student Learning
Fostering Collaborative Cultures
Focusing on Instructional Practice
Ensuring Organizational Effectiveness
Supporting Systemwide and Sustainable Improvements in Teaching and Learning
Ultimately, students do better when adults do better. That’s why Ohio’s superintendents, principals, teachers, teams, and coaches need the right knowledge, skills, and dispositions to improve learning environments, opportunities, and outcomes for all students.
These professional learning opportunities are aligned to the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce’s strategic priorities. This website provides information on professional learning designed to support systemwide and sustainable improvements in teaching and learning.
A Continuum of Collaborative Professional Learning
We recognize the important and different roles that each instructional leader plays in a student’s success.
That’s why our professional learning is customized by role—from central office staff to principals, teachers, teams, and coaches. This approach provides a continuum of collaborative professional learning across a school system. OH-IIL’s professional learning offerings include:
Ohio Leadership for Inclusion, Implementation, & Instructional Improvement (OLi4)
OLi4 is a two-year professional learning series, developed in collaboration with school districts, community schools, and other partners, that builds the capacity of school principals and assistant principals to improve results for all students through the development of instructional leadership capacity.
Participants advance through the series as part of a cohort, learning from experts and peers as they apply instructional leadership strategies to facilitate the work of collaborative leadership teams and to foster teacher learning and instructional improvement on behalf of all children.
Professional Learning for Teams (OH-AiPL)
OH-AiPL is a two-year, application-based professional learning series for vertical teams to examine, refine, and improve strategies for engaging all students in learning.
This virtual professional learning series is designed to help participants overcome collaboration challenges, address student engagement, understand the roles and instructional and organizational leadership functions of central office administration and more.
OH-AiPL is part of a national initiative supported by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and the Collaboration on Effective Educator Development, Accountability, and Reform (CEEDAR) Center.
Professional Learning for Central Office Personnel (COIIL)
COIIL is a 10-month professional learning series designed for central office personnel and principal supervisors to learn and apply instructional leadership practices that accelerate learning for all children.
Targeted, practical learning opportunities and coaching support help participants understand the what, why, and how of instructional leadership.
